Why homeowners here plan kitchens differently

The Quad Cities sit between about 4,600 and 5,400 feet. Winter nights freeze, summer air is dry, and the water is hard. Those three facts change real decisions: insulate any sink plumbing on an exterior wall, let solid-wood cabinet doors acclimate before install, and plan for a water softener loop or filtration when you rework the sink.

The housing stock varies a lot within a short drive. Downtown Prescott has homes more than a century old with small, closed kitchens. Prescott Valley is mostly newer subdivisions with builder-grade cabinets that are ready for an upgrade. Chino Valley and Dewey-Humboldt have more acreage, wells and septic systems, which matters when a sink or dishwasher moves.

Arizona also has a specific rule worth knowing: anyone doing a remodeling job of $1,000 or more, or any job that needs a permit, must hold an Arizona Registrar of Contractors license. Every project is built by an Arizona ROC-licensed contractor, and you can check any license number yourself at roc.az.gov.

How your kitchen gets built

Every remodel follows the same order of trades, so nothing gets torn out twice.

  1. 01

    Demo and protection

Floors and nearby rooms are covered, dust barriers go up, and the old kitchen comes out cleanly.

  2. 02

    Rough-in

Plumbing, gas and electrical are moved or updated to code, with permits pulled when the work needs them.

  3. 03

    Cabinets and counters

Cabinets are set level and square, then countertops are templated and installed.

  4. 04

    Finish and walkthrough

Backsplash, flooring, lighting, hardware and appliances go in, then a final walkthrough with you.

Common questions

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Prescott?

Most Quad Cities kitchen projects fall into three bands: a cosmetic refresh (paint or reface cabinets, new counters, fixtures), a mid-range remodel (new cabinets, counters, appliances and lighting in the same layout), and a full remodel that moves walls, plumbing or gas. National 2025–2026 data puts a minor remodel near $28,000 and a major mid-range remodel near $83,000. Your in-home estimate gives the real number. See our Quad Cities cost guide.

Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen?

Usually only when the work goes beyond surfaces. Swapping cabinets or countertops in place generally does not need one. Moving or adding plumbing, gas lines, electrical circuits or walls generally does. Each town runs its own building department, so your contractor should confirm with Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley or Dewey-Humboldt before work starts.

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Plan on 2 to 4 weeks of on-site work for a refresh in the same layout, and 6 to 12 weeks for a full remodel. Custom cabinet lead times, countertop templating (measured after the cabinets go in) and permit review add time before and during the job.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. The in-home visit and the written estimate cost nothing, and you are never obligated to go ahead.
